June Special Sunday - June 8th, 2025- Sons of the Union Veteran of the Civil War - 2 PM We hope you can join us for our 1st Summer Special Sunday for 2025!June 8th come to the big red barn & enjoy a free, historical presentation with the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Colonel William Henry Kinsman Camp #23.Weather permitting, they will bring outdoor displays, as well as host a presentation inside the barn. Signal corps, artillery, infantry & medical may be represented.Company "I" was comprised of almost all Cass County residents, so there is a proud legacy here!Please bring your own comfortable lawn chair, or we do have wooden chairs in the barn. Cookies & lemonade will be served. Presentation starts at 2 pm The House will be open for guided tours as usual from 1-5. Last tour starts at 4:15. Tours are $5 per person, high school aged-adult, cash or check for tours. July Special Summer Sunday - July 13th, 2025 - David Connon presents: "Joshia Bushnell Grinnell & The Iowa Underground Railroad" Presentation starts at 2pm Join us in the big red barn to hear from David Connon about Joshia Grinnell & his role in the Underground Railroad here in Iowa. This program is free for all to attend. “Preacher”, “congressman” “negro stealer”: he was called all of those things during his life. Mr. Connon will tell the story of racism, as well as noble actions and will highlight abolitionist John Brown’s visit to the city of Grinnell and Grinnell’s first riot over the presence of fugitive slaves in the public schools.Mr. Connon belongs to the Humanities Iowa Speaker’s Bureau and is an independent researcher and writer researching the Iowa Underground Railroad. He works as an historical interpreter at Living History Farms and is the great-great-grandson of two Union veterans.The house will be also be open for tours from 1-5. Last tour starts at 4:15 The House tour fee is $5 for persons who have high school aged & older. Children are free.Bring your lawn chairs and join us for an interesting learning experience. Refreshments will be available at the presentation.
