Full Story
FREEDOM
STAR
Gertie’s Journey On The Underground Railroad
The Eulenspiegel Puppets perform a large
repertoire of international folktales. In conjunction with the Iowa
Arts Council they will present FREEDOM STAR: Gertie's Journey on the
Underground Railroad. Using near life-size hand-and-rod puppets, rod
puppets, and original music by Iowa Musician Ron Hillis, the
Eulenspiegel Puppets tell a dramatic, moving, and sometimes humorous
story of a young slave girl who escapes with the help of John Brown and
a series of helpful "conductors" on the Underground Railroad.

By
popular demand,
The Eli Coffin Case, in an expanded version, will be presented in
the Barn at Hitchcock House, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June
10 & 11.
Roy
Marshall’s play, The Eli Coffin Case, dramatizes events that
surrounded the mysterious death of Mary Coffin and the subsequent death
of her husband, Eli Coffin. Was Mary’s death murder? Certainly Eli’s
lynching was an act of vigilante “justice”. Roy’s play is an exciting
dramatization of one of the juicier slices of local history.
The
cemetery walk involves local re-enactors who stand by graves of
prominent Cass County persons, in costume, and relate stories of their
lives during a tour of the cemetery. The walk begins at 4:30 p.m..
